Nutrition Challenge

Ok, so there’s been some muttering amongst the masses for some form of Nutrition Challenge at the gym. A way to force some discipline onto your daily routine of coffee, doughnuts, cigarettes, potato chips, coca-cola, street meat and oh yeah, booze. Here’s a preliminary thought:
Who: Anybody who responds to this post and says they are down with it.
What: An 8 week commitment to yourself starting August 1.
Where: Anywhere that discipline is lacking.
When: Starting August 1. Ending October 1.
Why: Hell if I know, you asked for it. Nah just kidding. Because it may just change your life.
How: First, post here under Comments and say you want to join.
Second, YOU set the parameters of the Nutrition Challenge for you. Do a little research, ask a few questions and decide what you think is best. For Example: My Challenge will be to eat Zone Paleo. Or My Challenge will to be to drink only 3 beers a week, and eliminate sugar. Or My Challenge is to go hardcore Paleo. My Challenge is to eat more meat and veggies and eliminate starch and sugar. My Challenge is to go cold turkey on the sauce. Or My Challenge is to go hardcore Zone. Or My Challenge is to eat nothing but pizza etc. etc. You get the point. You decide your Challenge. Once you do so, you will Post it for the World to see on August 1.
Third, you will get paired up with another participant. Every day, you will email your pal and me (consider this your support group) on how you did that day. It can be as simple as “yep, on track”, or as complicated as an item by item list of your intake. Whatever works for you. The email and your peers will hold you accountable. Trial by a jury of your peers.
Lastly, we’ll do a handful of Benchmarks at the start and end of the Challenge. Who knows, maybe you’ll get faster/stronger. More importantly hopefully you will feel healthier and better about yourself for sticking to something that is worth sticking to. Sounds Sticky.

Oh and another thing: bring your Benchmark worksheets to the Gym and start using them!

I’m in. My list will be extensive as I haven’t really been keeping with a program.
Cool! We can also layer on an Attendance Challenge; ie set a goal for how manys days a week to get to the gym.

I will try to focus on something paleo based with focus on protein. I am worried more about building lean muscle and not losing size.
Also, the 3 beer a week limit sounds good.
I’m down, need to lose 20lbs and get down to a real crossfit weight.
I was actually planning on doing this with a friend.
I was thinking maybe Paleo with one cheat day a week. Nothing crazy, but I love sushi and I know rice is not part of the paleo diet.
I’m in because I suck at everything and I do better if I am held accountable.

My goal is to find a nutrition plan that doesn’t include daily consumption of fish and chips, bangers and mash, and booze. I’m screwed.

I’m in! I love it! I’ve been working on paleo for a few months and would like to tighten it up and stick to it for a longer period of time without slipping. And for my attendance goal I want to go to the gym twice a week and do two workouts at home a week. Can’t wait to get started!
In. Going back to TX for a week and a half for a bach party so the drinking thing is out for those days but I will stay committed to the food portion.
I plan on hitting the CrossFit up daily while I am there so I will not stray far.
anyone have ideas of what they will do for this? I have been reading a lot about the paleo diet, but I don’t know how realistic it will be to keep it up 100%. Thanks.
I did paleo for about 2 weeks with very few “cheats” (I had quinoa one day, sue me) and I only eat fish, so if you are a steak eater than it will be 47 times easier. It is possible but gets tiring because all you are thinking about is preparing your next meal and a little expensive, you have to plan a lot. But it’s doable, for sure.
I also learned that there is alcohol allowed on paleo…wine and tequila only. That’s not so bad.
If anyone has an iphone or other smartphone there is a great app out there called Calorie Counter by fatsecret. There is also a website http://www.fatsecret.com that you can sync with. It’s great because you can enter all your food and it will tell you the % of fat, carbs, and protein and you can make adjustments. You can also scan food items and the nutrition content comes up. And it’s free!
I am totally in!! Thinking of going with Paleo and staying away from the vending machines when I work the overnight

Hey all, this is Brian. I’m the “super tall giant” that Eric mentioned a few days back whos joining up.
First post here but given my official “start date” of Aug 1 at the gym, it seems only fitting for me to jump into the nutritional goals too. I’ve got a few goals to go for:
1.) Strict zone diet
2.) Daily fish oil
3.) CF gym 4x per week
