Matt Moran is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer and the head trainer of CrossFit Metropolis. Matt has been coaching CrossFit since 2010, and specializes in high-level bodyweight movements. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and an actuary. His favorite workout is “The Seven”. His least favorite workout is “Karen”, followed closely by “Row 2000m”. His most impressive physical feat is pogo-sticking 1 full mile without stopping.
Mickey “Mick” Kostelnik is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. A native of Northeast Ohio, Mickey grew up playing a variety of sports, where he was introduced to weight lifting through a middle school strength and conditioning program. He has loved the gym ever since. Mickey played college football at John Carroll University while earning a bachelors degree in business. He later served his country as a member of the 75 th Ranger Regiment. Mickey is passionate about physical challenges and helping people achieve greatness through physical fitness. He is currently studying for his masters in Exercise Science/Strength and Conditioning at LIU Brooklyn. When he’s not at the gym, you can find Mickey with his beautiful wife and daughter.
Carlos “Babalos” Davila is a Certified Trainer (AFAA, KB concepts, NASM PES, etc). He has been in the fitness/wellness industry for over 15 years. He continues to pursue ways to meld his vast experience within the fitness industry with his knowledge of psychology (PhD candidate, Sports Psychology). Carlos has been a member of the Crossfit community since 2008; he has competed in various local and regional competitions in that time. Carlos has competed in various obstacle races; Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Civilian Military Combine and Warrior Dash just to name a few He is always looking for the next fitness challenge. An avid music fan, you will enjoy his varied playlists and “calm” demeanor.
Eric “Eroc” Salvador is a CrossFit Level I Certified Trainer. After serving his country as one of the few, the proud, Eric S. found his love for fitness and became a personal trainer. He’s been training on the Upper East Side for the last 10 years and has established a large clientele that are all starting to follow him to CF Metropolis. Eric has participated in the NYC marathon and NYC Triathlon. He truly loves to coach, motivate and is passionate about helping others reach their goals. When he’s not playing rugby with his son Isaiah or practicing gymnastics with his daughter Sammie, you can bet he’ll be there pushing you to the very last rep. In addition to his Level 1 Cert, Eric is certified in CrossFit Gymnastics, USAW, CrossFit Olympic Weightlifting, Kettlebell Concepts, NSCA, NASM – certified personal trainer, and has completed the CrossFit Endurance Trainer Course.
Melanie “Melly” Newman started at CrossFit Metropolis in March 2012. Growing up, Melanie was not the most active child. After dabbling in group fitness classes and roadrunner races, she started doing small group training at a local gym and that is where she finally found her interest in strength and high intensity interval training. She stalked the Metropolis website for months and finally decided to drop in to the free demo class and was instantly attracted to the strong sense of community. Since becoming a member, Melanie has developed a love for Olympic Weightlifting, attending various seminars and certifications over the years. When you see her make sure you say hello and smile because she will probably be snapping pictures and videos of you for our various social media accounts.
Johanna “JTrain” Cinquegrana is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer. Johanna joined CF Metropolis in November 2012 and her life has never been the same since. After growing up as a competitive figure skater, Johanna found Crossfit to fulfill her lack of competition and athleticism in her life. She convinced her husband, Chad, to join Crossfit six months later, and now they are raising a son together to be a future Crossfit Games competitor. When not at the gym, you can find Johanna teaching math on the lower east side. Johanna is a graduate of Columbia University and has lived in NYC since 2002. Johanna is also certified as a Crossfit Olympic Weightlifting Trainer.
Chad “Ocho” Cinquegrana is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. Chad joined CF Metropolis in May 2013 after his wife joined six months earlier and started squatting more than him. Chad enjoys snatching and muscle ups and can’t wait to teach his son the art of the barbell. When Chad isn’t bulking, you can find him teaching health and physical education at a high school on the lower east side. He is a graduate of SUNY Cortland and has lived in NYC since 2007. Chad is also certified as a Crossfit Olympic Weightlifting Trainer.
Jason “J Ca$h” Castro is a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and native New Yorker. Growing up Jason played baseball and basketball, and got into fitness as a result. He joined CrossFit Metropolis in April of 2012 where he fell in love with snatching, handstand pushups, and burpees. When he’s not working on his fitness and blasting country music, you can find him at the Bronx Zoo where he spends his day working with some pretty cool animals.
